Flex Fuel Vehicles
Ethanol
There are over 5 million flexible fuel ethanol vehicles on the road . These vehicles are specially designed to run on regular unleaded or any ethanol blended fuel up to 85% ethanol. To determine if you own a flexible fuel vehicle, click here www.e85fuel.com/information/vin.php. Special on-board diagnostics "read" the fuel blend, enabling drivers to fuel with E85 or regular unleaded when E85 is unavailable.
Because E85 sells on average for 10 to 20 percent below unleaded regular gasoline, many motorists trying to save money are filling their non flex-fuel vehicles with E85. E85 can be corrosive to fuel systems not designed to burn E85 and should never be used in these vehicles.
E85 cost. Some states allow for credits on your tax returns for E85 fuel use. Contact your tax advisor for more details.
The following automakers offer E85 engines as standard equipment in certain vehicles, with little to no extra cost.

BioDiesel

Japanese automaker Nissan plans to introduce a diesel version of the Maxima in the U.S. by 2010.
Biodiesel fuel comes in blends up to B100. Biofuel blends contain biofuels made from soy oil, waste vegetable oil, rapeseed oil and many different plant oils and petroleum diesel. Most common retail fuel blends found in Dr. Engergee's Guide to Alternative Fuels are in B2, B5 or B20 blends.
Any diesel engine can burn biodiesel. Most OEM manufacturers approve of B5 use but are working toward approving B20. Higher concentrations of biofuel blends may require fuel system modifications. Contact your local dealer if you are unsure of which fuels blends can be used with your diesel powered vehicle.
