Bagasse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bagasse (sometimes spelled bagass) is the biomass remaining after sugarcane stalks are crushed to extract their juice.

A sugar factory produces nearly 30% of bagasse out of its total crushing. Many research efforts have attempted to use bagasse as a renewable feedstock for power generation and for the production of bio-based materials.

Bagasse is often used as a primary fuel source for sugar mills; when burned in quantity, it produces sufficient heat energy to supply all the needs of a typical sugar mill, with energy to spare. To this end, a secondary use for this waste product is in cogeneration, the use of a fuel source to provide both heat energy, used in the mill, and electricity, which is typically on-sold to the consumer electricity grid. The resulting CO2 emissions are equal to the amount of CO2 that the sugarcane plant used up from the atmosphere during its growing phase, and thus the process of cogeneration is greenhouse gas-neutral.

Ethanol produced from sugarcane, is a popular fuel in Brazil.

Agave bagasse is a similar material which consists of the tissue of the blue agave after extraction of the sap.

Keith Sanderson and Bill Wolski

Two Men Who Care With Passion Enough to Create www.usaenergyindependence.com

More than 30 years ago Bill and Keith were employed in the communications department of a Fortune 500 Company whose products were used in coal mining, offshore oil, and oil and natural gas pipelines. When the Arab Oil Embargo hit they witnessed first hand the impact dependence on offshore petroleum and natural gas meant to both corporate America and young families.

There was some good and lots of bad. The bad news was much more than skyrocketing gasoline costs. Inflation, unemployment, uncertainty and yes, even a sort of malaise seemed to overtake the country.

Back then as now there was much finger pointing and accusation by politicians about who was at fault. There was an abundance of suggestions of what should be done. Some of the suggestions were blatantly partisan and patronizing, a few were constructive.

In the spring of 2006 Bill and Keith were involved in a joint communication project. Experts were forecasting $3.00 and higher gasoline by May or June, 2006. The two long time friends began to reminisce how much the current situation reminded of the Arab Oil Embargo and its aftermath. They both agreed that while ironically there have been technological advances affecting both traditional USA located energy resources and the development of exciting new technologies such as bio-fuels and hydrogen, not much if anything has been done by our leaders to foster the challenge for the USA to work towards energy independence.

While high gasoline prices may dismay the woman or man at the pump, the far reaching consequences of continuing dependence on offshore petroleum and natural gas scared the hell out of Bill and Keith. They believe the ultimate price their children and grandchildren will pay for continuing USA dependency offshore energy is a slippage towards a third world standard of living. Both men believe the consequences can mean a reduction of the freedom of movement; lower food reserves, reduced public health and health care, and lower overall living standards.

In other words the consequences of continued dependency for offshore energy mean that the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that are mandated to the people in the USA Declaration of Independence are threatened.

Faced with this picture both men agreed to channel their energy and passion into developing a platform for USA Energy Independence. They formed a new company named It’s About Time… and created and launched this web site.

Bill and Keith's combined experience includes: Venture Capital Investing, Feature Writing and Publishing, Publicity/P.R., Corporate Communications, Sales Management Programs, Strategic Planning, Marketing Communications Planning, Direct Marketing Lead Generation and Direct Ordering Programs and Software, Trade Advertising Programs, Trade Show Traffic Building, Telemarketing Consulting, Electronic Ordering (Programming), Web Site Design/SEO, Digital Asset Management, Inquiry and Lead Fulfillment, Sales and Inquiry ROI analysis, Marketing Segmentation/Market Research, POP Display/Packaging/Logo Design, Channel Marketing, and more...

It’s about time our leaders listened to us, the people! Sign up below to send a message to Washington!

I believe that the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that are guaranteed to the people in the USA Declaration of Independence are threatened. These basic rights are in jeopardy because of our continuing dependency on petroleum and natural gas resources from the Middle East and other areas of the world that are politically unstable or have the potential for political instability.

I believe our leaders should forge a Declaration of USA Energy Independence that provides both short term and long term planning and solutions for energy independence.
